Casa Mila, also known as La Pedrera, is an apartment building at 92 Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudi and completed in 1912. Its facade is built as a self-supporting undulating wall of carved limestone, without a single straight line, fronted by wrought iron balcony railings, and the building is organized around a free interior plan with two large courtyards and an underground garage, one of the first in a residential building. Its name, meaning the stone quarry, was originally used mockingly to describe its rough-hewn, cave-like appearance, and its roof terrace is animated by sculptural chimneys and stairwell exits. UNESCO inscribed Casa Mila in 1984 as part of the Works of Antoni Gaudi.
