Castle Rock (Garrison, New York)

Castle Rock, also called the Osborn Castle, is a stone country house built in 1881 by architect J. Morgan Slade for Illinois Central Railroad president William H. Osborn on a hill above the Hudson River in Garrison, New York, in a castle-like design with a conical-roofed round tower, dormers and multiple porches. It became the summer residence of the Osborn family, including paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn, and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks of the Hudson Highlands, visible from West Point across the river. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, the estate was bought by a new private owner, George Carroll Whipple III, in 2021.
