Centennial Comfort Stations

The Centennial comfort stations are two one-story brick public restroom buildings in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, built for the 1876 Centennial Exposition to serve the adjacent Horticulture Building, with slate roofs and copper detailing. They are among only four Centennial Exposition buildings that survive on their original sites, and are described as perhaps the only extant restrooms from a nineteenth-century international exposition; after the Horticulture Building was demolished in 1955 the stations were used for storage, and renovation beginning in 2011 has converted the eastern station into exhibition space for the neighboring Shofuso Japanese House and Gardens, with the western station still used for storage.
