Coombing Park

Coombing Park is a working farming property about 5 kilometers west of Carcoar in western New South Wales, Australia, whose original homestead and outbuildings were built with convict labor between 1838 and 1842; its shearing shed and stables, dating to 1848, still stand, and a single-story brick villa designed and built by G. A. Mansfield replaced the original cottage in 1900. One of the first estates established west of the Blue Mountains, the property hosted copper mining from 1848 to 1851 and again from 1875, and an iron ore quarry from 1899 to 1923 that supplied the Lithgow blast furnace; the nearby town of Carcoar was founded in 1839 specifically to service the estate. Coombing Park later became known for adopting holistic land management practices to reverse degradation of its pastures.
