Delavan Terrace Historic District

The Delavan Terrace Historic District is a group of ten surviving houses, originally twelve, along Delavan Terrace on a ridge in northwest Yonkers, New York, between the Hudson and Saw Mill rivers. The houses were built between 1854 and 1926, mostly after 1900, in Late Victorian and turn-of-the-century revival styles including Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, Mission Revival, Colonial Revival, and Shingle Style, and were originally home to industrialists from firms such as Otis Elevator and Alexander Smith Carpet Mills. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983; actress Billie Burke lived in the Borland House in the 1920s, and the district's oldest house, the 1854 Smith-Collins House, was demolished in 2007, prompting local preservation legislation.
