The Euromast is an observation tower in Rotterdam, Netherlands, designed by the architect Hugh Maaskant and built between 1958 and 1960 specifically for the 1960 Floriade horticultural exhibition. Its reinforced-concrete shaft has an internal diameter of nine meters and rests on a concrete foundation block weighing about 1,900,000 kilograms, positioned so the tower's center of gravity sits below ground for stability. Originally 101 meters tall, the Euromast briefly lost its status as Rotterdam's tallest structure before a 1970 addition, the slender Space Tower, restored its height record with a further 85 meters and gave the building its present 184.6-metre overall height; it has been a protected listed monument since 2010. The Euromast is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers and has occasionally hosted organized BASE jumping events from its upper platform.
