Facility

A facility, in the sense used across architecture and planning, is a building with staff and equipment built to serve a particular activity rather than simply to provide shelter. The term covers a wide range of building types built around a specific function, among them hotels and resorts, schools, office complexes, hospitals, sports arenas and convention centers, as well as more specialized categories such as medical facilities, assisted living centers, correctional institutions and telecommunications installations. What unifies the category is not a shared form but a shared purpose: each facility is built and staffed to support one particular kind of activity.
