Fairview Plantation

Fairview is a historic plantation house in Fairwood, Maryland, formerly Collington, built beginning around 1788 to 1790 on land owned by Baruch Duckett in a transitional federal and Greek Revival style, a two-story stuccoed brick house with flush end chimneys and a distinctive stepped gable. Duckett died at the house in 1810, and Maryland governor Oden Bowie was born there in 1826 and buried on the property in 1894; at its height the plantation held over 100 enslaved people, including 47 under Bowie's ownership. Duckett descendants lived at Fairview until 2017, and while the plantation land was largely developed as the Fairwood community in the 1980s, the house and cemetery are recognized as a historic site by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
