Fancy Farm (Bedford, Virginia)

Fancy Farm is a historic plantation house at Kelso Mill, near Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia, built around 1785 in a Late Georgian style as a two story, five bay brick dwelling with a metal gable roof, two interior end chimneys and original interior woodwork. Contributing outbuildings include a brick storehouse, a frame kitchen with a stone chimney and frame quarters with a stone chimney, and the grounds offer a view of the Peaks of Otter. During the Valley Campaigns of 1864, the house served as headquarters for Union General David Hunter during his Lynchburg campaign. It was restored between 1969 and 1971 and was listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1971.
