The Edith Farnsworth House is a historic house museum along the Fox River near Plano, Illinois, completed in 1951 to a design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the International Style, built as a weekend retreat for the physician Edith Farnsworth. One of only three private residences Mies designed in the United States, it is cited as a major modernist work, raised more than five feet above the floodplain with a minimalist exterior and a largely open plan interior, on a 62 acre estate now owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
