Faunsdale Plantation

Faunsdale Plantation is a historic slave plantation near Faunsdale in Marengo County, Alabama, built in 1844 in the state's cotton-growing Black Belt region, where up to 186 enslaved African Americans were held before the Civil War. Its Greek Revival main house is accompanied by exceptionally well-preserved slave cabins dating to around 1860 with Carpenter Gothic detailing, among the last surviving examples of that building type in Alabama, and unusually detailed records document the surnames of enslaved families held there. The 13-acre historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
