Floating restaurant

A floating restaurant is a restaurant built on the water, typically inside a large steel barge or the hull of a retired ship, moored permanently or semi-permanently rather than sailing. Well known examples include Jumbo Kingdom in Hong Kong, once the largest floating restaurant in the world before it sank at sea in 2022; DiMillo's On the Water in Portland, Maine, built inside a former 1941 car ferry called the New York; and Sea Palace in Amsterdam, a nine hundred seat Chinese restaurant. The type has repeatedly reused retired ships, ferries and paddle steamers as its hull, converting vessels that would otherwise be scrapped into fixed dining venues.
