Ford Mansion

The Ford Mansion is a Georgian-style house at 30 Washington Place in Morristown, New Jersey, built in 1774 by Colonel Jacob Ford Jr. near his iron forge on the Whippany River. The house served as George Washington's headquarters during the Continental Army's second winter encampment at Morristown, from December 1779 to June 1780, when Washington chose the town for its defensible terrain and access to communication routes between Philadelphia and Manhattan. Its exterior features flush board siding scored to resemble masonry, corner quoins, a Palladian window over the entrance, and an ornamented cornice, while the interior carries Dutch decorative influences. The National Park Service has owned the mansion since 1966 as part of Morristown National Historical Park.
