A freeway lid is a deck bridge built over a controlled access highway or other roadway, most often used to create new parkland in a city where a freeway would otherwise divide neighborhoods. Some lids are large enough to support buildings or other heavy structures such as convention centers, and narrower versions built mainly to widen a highway overpass for pedestrians are sometimes called a stitch or cap and stitch.
