Ganden Monastery, also known as Ganden Namgyeling, is one of the three great Gelug university monasteries, located in Dagze, near Lhasa, Tibet, alongside Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery. It was founded in 1409 by Je Tsongkhapa Lozang-dragpa, the founder of the Gelug order. The monastery was destroyed after 1959 and has since been partially rebuilt; a separate monastery of the same name and tradition was established by Tibetan exiles in southern India in 1966.
