The Grand Hotel is a resort hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, designed by the Detroit firm Mason and Rice in the Queen Anne style and completed in just 93 days before opening on July 10, 1887. The hotel is best known for its front porch, roughly 660 feet long, which it advertises as the longest porch in the world, and its guest rooms are each decorated differently, including a set of suites named for seven First Ladies of the United States. Over its history it has hosted five sitting or former United States presidents along with figures such as Thomas Edison and Mark Twain. The hotel was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1957, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and named a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
