Greenwood Plantation (Georgia)

Greenwood Plantation is a plantation in the Red Hills Region of southern Georgia just west of Thomasville, whose Greek Revival mansion was designed by British architect John Wind and built around 1838 to 1844, then expanded in 1899 by Stanford White of McKim, Mead and White. The 5,200-acre property is used for quail hunting and includes 1,000 acres of old-growth longleaf pine, some trees reaching 500 years old. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, it passed to the Whitney family's Greentree Foundation after owner Jock Whitney's widow died in 1998, and the foundation offered it for sale in 2013.
