Guangzhou South is a major railway and metro interchange station in the Panyu District, about 17 kilometers south of central Guangzhou, China, and one of the country's four largest railway passenger hubs. It was designed by the architectural firm TFP Farrells and began operating on January 30, 2010, with its metro connections following on September 25, 2010; on opening it briefly held the distinction of being Asia's largest railway station by area. The complex remains the largest station in Guangzhou, built with elevated levels for China Railway high speed services and underground levels for the Guangzhou Metro and Foshan Metro, and it accommodates 13 island platforms and 2 side platforms for rail service in addition to its separate metro platforms.
