Villa Hammerschmidt is a neoclassical villa on the Rhine in Bonn, Germany, built in 1860 by the architect August Dieckhoff as a private house for a wealthy industrialist and redecorated by Otto Penner in 1868. It became the primary official residence of the president of Germany in 1950 and served in that role until 1994, when President Richard von Weizsacker moved the main residence to Bellevue Palace in Berlin. It remains the secondary official seat and residence of the German presidency, with private presidential apartments upstairs and state rooms for ceremonial use on the ground floor.
