Homestead Farm at Oak Ridge

The Homestead Farm at Oak Ridge is a historic house and 208-acre grounds in Oak Ridge Park, lying mostly in Clark Township, Union County, New Jersey, with a small extension into Edison Township, Middlesex County. The oldest part of the house was built around 1720 to 1740, and the property, formerly known as Ash Swamp, played a part in the Battle of Short Hills during the American Revolutionary War; the house is associated with Judge Hugh Hartshorne Bowne and combines Federal, Colonial and Italianate styling. It was listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places on September 8, 1995 and the National Register of Historic Places on October 25, 1995, and in 2009 the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted to support preserving the site.
