Hope Plantation

Hope Plantation, built in 1803, is an early house in the Palladian mode of the Federal style, located on the Carolina Coastal Plain near Windsor, North Carolina. It was built by David Stone, a member of the coastal Carolina planter class who later served as governor of North Carolina and as a United States senator. Considered one of the finest examples of Palladian design executed in timber, the manor house is slightly modified by neoclassical elements, with a five bay facade, a pedimented double portico carrying the original Chinese Chippendale balustrade, and a widow's walk with matching railing crowning the roof. Its interior displays a height and grandeur rare for the region, and is furnished with a collection of period furniture, art and artifacts.
