The Hotel Danieli occupies the fourteenth-century Palazzo Dandolo on the Riva degli Schiavoni in Venice, a short walk from St Mark's Square, converted into a hotel in 1822 by Giuseppe Dal Niel, from whom the property takes its name. The Gothic palace retains its original ornamented facade and a grand internal staircase rising around a central courtyard, features that distinguish it from purpose-built hotel architecture of the same era. It is counted among the oldest hotels in Europe still in continuous operation and has hosted numerous writers, artists and heads of state over its nearly two centuries as a hotel.
