The Hotel del Coronado is a beach resort hotel at 1500 Orange Avenue in Coronado, California, designed by the architects James and Merritt Reid and opened on February 19, 1888. Built largely of wood in a Late Victorian, Queen Anne style, with red-tiled turrets and wraparound verandas, it was the largest resort hotel in the world when it opened and remains one of the largest wooden structures in the United States. The hotel has hosted numerous American presidents and other notable guests over its history and has appeared in film, including as a filming location for Some Like It Hot. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977.
