Hotel Negresco

Hotel Negresco stands on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, completed in 1913 to a design by the architect Edouard Niermans for the Romanian hotelier Henri Negresco, at a moment when the French Riviera was becoming a fashionable winter destination for European aristocracy. Its Belle Epoque facade is topped by a large pink dome, whose steel structural framework is attributed to the engineering firm of Gustave Eiffel, giving the hotel one of the most recognizable silhouettes on the Riviera coastline. The hotel houses an extensive private art and antiques collection assembled by its longtime owners, including works displayed throughout its public rooms rather than confined to a separate gallery, an unusual arrangement for a working hotel. Hotel Negresco has been designated a French historic monument, and its facade and interiors remain protected even as it continues to operate as a functioning luxury hotel.
