Istanbul Airport

Istanbul Airport opened in stages beginning in October 2018 and took over all scheduled commercial flights from the city's older Ataturk Airport in April 2019, built on a site northwest of the city as Turkey's new principal international gateway. Its main terminal building, designed by an international team including Grimshaw Architects, Nordic Office of Architecture and Haptic Architects with Scott Brownrigg as lead delivery architect, covers roughly 1.44 million square meters, making it one of the largest single airport terminal buildings in the world. The terminal is organized around five connected concourses served by more than 140 passenger boarding bridges, built to accommodate one of the highest passenger capacities of any airport once fully phased in. The airport's scale and its ambition to become a major hub between Europe and Asia have made it a centerpiece of recent large-scale infrastructure building in Turkey.
