John Johnson Farm

The John Johnson Farm is a historic house in Hiram Township, Portage County, Ohio, built in 1828 in a colonial style. Joseph Smith and his family lived in the house from September 1831 to March 1832, during which time it served as an early headquarters of the Latter Day Saint movement and the site of several revelations Smith recorded. The farm was also the site of a mob attack on Smith and Sidney Rigdon in March 1832, in which the two men were tarred and feathered. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints acquired the property in 1956 and restored it between 1996 and 2001; it now operates as a visitor site staffed by volunteer missionaries. The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
