John Moses Browning House

The John Moses Browning House is a historic residence at 505 27th Street in Ogden, Utah, built between 1890 and 1900 to a design by architect Sam Whittaker in sandstone and red brick. It was the primary home of the American firearms designer John Moses Browning from around the turn of the twentieth century until his death in 1926, and the 6,700-square-foot house has two and a half stories and eight bedrooms. The Browning family kept the house until 1940, when it was converted into apartments; the YWCA later used it in the mid-1940s as a shelter for women, a law firm operated offices there, and it was restored to residential use in 2001. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 24, 1973, and also contributes to the Ogden Central Bench Historic District.
