Kanazawa Station

Kanazawa Station is a major railway station in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, jointly operated by West Japan Railway Company, the private Hokuriku Railroad, and the third-sector IR Ishikawa Railway. First opened on 1 April 1898, the station contemporary form dates largely from the arrival of the Hokuriku Shinkansen platforms on 14 March 2015, which connected Kanazawa to Nagano and Tokyo by high-speed rail. Its most distinctive feature is the Tsuzumi Gate at the station east entrance, designed by Ryuzo Shirae in the shape of a traditional hand drum, paired with the glass Motenashi Dome and a large roof built to keep snow from stopping trains on the IR platforms.
