Kona Coffee Living History Farm

The Kona Coffee Living History Farm is an open-air museum on the site of the historic Daisaku Uchida Coffee Farm in the Kona District of Hawaiis Big Island, covering about two acres and recreating the daily life of early Japanese immigrants to Hawaii between 1920 and 1945. Daisaku Uchida, who had arrived in Hawaii in 1906, established the coffee farm and, after his 1912 marriage to Shima Maruo, expanded the farm and residence with her in 1925, remaining there until her death in 1966 and his in 1986. When development threatened the unmodernized property, Sherwood Greenwell donated it to the Kona Historical Society for preservation, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 9, 1995, offering tours of its coffee orchard, farmhouse and historic mill.
