LaBranche Plantation Dependency

The LaBranche Plantation Dependency House stands in St. Rose, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, the sole survivor of LaBranche Plantation, also known as Barbarra Plantation, once one of the grandest estates on the German Coast until it was destroyed during the American Civil War. Built as a garconniere, or bachelor quarters, ancillary to the main plantation house, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 for its statewide significance as a rare and superior example of the Creole style. Its beaded beams and ceiling boards and its elaborate mantels, with strong moldings and sunburst motifs, are unusually fine for a building of its small size, and very few comparable Creole dependencies survive in Louisiana today.
