Liverpool Street Station

Liverpool Street station stands in the City of London, opened in 1874 as the Great Eastern Railway's principal London terminus, replacing an earlier and more distant company station at Bishopsgate. Its train sheds and Gothic-style station buildings, dating largely from the 1870s and 1890s, are Grade II listed, reflecting the ornamental brick and ironwork typical of major Victorian railway architecture. An adjoining London Underground station opened in 1875, making the site one of the earliest points in London where mainline and underground railways met directly. The station suffered serious damage in a 1993 bombing during renovation work then already underway, and it has since been progressively modernized, most recently with new platforms serving the Elizabeth line that opened in 2022, while continuing to handle tens of millions of passengers a year as one of London's busiest terminals.
