The Luxembourg Palace stands at 15 Rue de Vaugirard in the sixth arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built between 1615 and 1645 to the designs of the French architect Salomon de Brosse as the royal residence of the regent Marie de Medici, mother of King Louis XIII. After the French Revolution it was refashioned between 1799 and 1805 by Jean-Francois Chalgrin into a legislative building, and was further enlarged and remodeled between 1835 and 1856 by Alphonse de Gisors. It has housed the upper house of the French legislature since the Consulate era and has been home to the Senate of the Fifth Republic since 1958.
