Terminal 4 of Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport is a passenger terminal in Madrid, Spain, designed by a team led by Antonio Lamela, Richard Rogers and Luis Vidal and inaugurated on February 5, 2006. The terminal complex is built in two parts, a main building of 470,000 square meters and a satellite building of 290,000 square meters around two kilometers away, together totalling some 760,000 square meters of floor space. Its design uses glass walls and numerous skylights in place of solid walls to bring natural light deep into the structure, intended to give passengers a calmer experience than a conventional terminal. The design team won the 2006 Stirling Prize, the UK's leading architecture award, for the building, which also received the 2006 Institution of Structural Engineers Award for Commercial Structures.
