The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, also called the Tomb of Mausolus, was a tomb built between 353 and 351 BC at Halicarnassus for Mausolus, an Anatolian ruler from Caria and a satrap of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, and his sister-wife Artemisia II. It was designed by the Greek architects Satyros of Paros and Pythius of Priene, and its elevated tomb form derives from the tombs of neighboring Lycia, a territory Mausolus had invaded and annexed around 360 BC, such as the Nereid Monument.
