Melrose Plantation, also known as Yucca Plantation, is a National Historic Landmark in the community of Melrose in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, and one of the largest plantations in the United States built by and for free people of color. The land was granted to Louis Metoyer, son of former slave and businesswoman Marie Therese Coincoin, who began building the plantation's Big House around 1832. After Louis died, his son Jean Baptiste Louis Metoyer completed the house in 1833.
