Merchant's Hope

Merchant's Hope is a historic Anglican church west of the junction of Route 641 and Virginia Route 10 near Hopewell, in Prince George County, Virginia. Built in Georgian style with Flemish bond brickwork and walls twenty two and a half inches thick, the sanctuary was completed in 1743 for a parish established in 1657, a date recent dendrochronological analysis of its roof timbers has confirmed. Listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register in 1968 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, the church still holds an active congregation and ranks among the oldest Protestant churches in America still used for worship.
