Mount Clare

Mount Clare, also known as the Mount Clare Museum House, is Baltimore's oldest surviving Colonial era building, a Georgian style plantation house built in 1763 by Charles Carroll the Barrister on the family's Baltimore estate. The house follows a five part plan typical of mid eighteenth century Maryland and Virginia architecture. The city of Baltimore purchased the property in 1890 for use as a public park, and since 1917 the house has been maintained as a museum by the National Society of Colonial Dames in Maryland. It was designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and became a Baltimore City Landmark in 1982.
