A music venue is any location used for a concert or musical performance, and the type spans an enormous range of scale, from a small coffeehouse hosting folk or jazz performers to an indoor sports stadium holding tens of thousands. Classical music tends toward opera houses, concert halls and outdoor bandshells, while rock, pop, dance and country music are more often heard in pubs, nightclubs and discotheques. Venues may be privately or publicly funded, with some charging admission as commercial businesses and others, such as a public park bandstand, offering performances free of charge. A venue may host live performers or recorded music played by a disc jockey, and often combines music with food, performance art or other social activities.
