The New Synagogue is a mid nineteenth century Jewish house of worship on Oranienburger Strasse in Berlin, Germany, designed by Eduard Knoblauch and completed after his death by Friedrich August Stuler, inaugurated in 1866 in a Moorish Revival style recalling the Alhambra. Built to seat some 3,200 worshippers, it survived attack on Kristallnacht in 1938 through police intervention but was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in 1943 and 1944. Its facade, dome and entrance rooms were restored after German reunification as the Centrum Judaicum, and the site today combines a museum and cultural center with a small congregation that has resumed services there.
