The New Town Hall stands on the northern side of Marienplatz in Munich, Bavaria, and has housed the city government of Munich, including the city council and the offices of the mayors, since the administration moved there from the Old Town Hall. Designed by Georg von Hauberrisser in the Gothic Revival, or neo-Gothic, style, it was largely completed by the end of 1906, with its clock mechanism operating from 1909. The building holds about 400 rooms across roughly 9,159 square meters behind a nearly 100 meter main facade richly decorated with figures from Bavarian history, and is topped by an 85 meter tower bearing the Munchner Kindl figure. Built of brick and shell limestone around six interior courtyards, the design drew inspiration from the town halls of Brussels and Vienna, and its facade and fountains carry allegorical figures and scenes from folk legend.
