The cathedral of Paris, begun in 1163 on the Ile de la Cite and substantially complete by the mid fourteenth century, one of the first buildings to deploy flying buttresses at full scale. Gutted by fire in April 2019, its oak roof and nineteenth century spire destroyed, it was restored and reopened to worship in December 2024.
