Oak Alley Plantation

Oak Alley Plantation is a historic plantation on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Vacherie, St. James Parish, Louisiana. It takes its name from an 800-foot canopied double row of southern live oak trees planted in the early 18th century, well before the present house was built, running between the house and the river. The property, first known as Bon Sejour, was designated a National Historic Landmark for its architecture and landscaping and for pecan-tree grafting performed there in 1846 to 1847 by an enslaved gardener.
