Ostankino Tower

The Ostankino Tower is a 540.1-metre television and radio tower in Moscow, Russia, designed by the engineer Nikolai Nikitin and completed in 1967 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the October Revolution. It held the record as the tallest freestanding structure in the world from 1967 until 1974 and remains the tallest structure in Europe today, ranking among the fifteen tallest towers on earth. The tower carries two observation levels, an enclosed glazed deck and an open-air deck a few meters above it, along with a revolving restaurant and active broadcasting studios that continue to serve Moscow's television and radio stations, and it takes its name from the surrounding Ostankino district of northern Moscow. The tower is administered by the Russian TV and Radio Broadcasting Network.
