The Palace of the Parliament, initially designed under Communist rule as the People's House or the House of the Republic, is the seat of the Parliament of Romania, sited atop Dealul Spirii in Bucharest, the national capital. Reaching 84 meters in height and extending 92 meters underground, with a floor area of 365,000 square meters and a volume of 2,550,000 cubic meters, it is the heaviest building in the world, weighing about 4,098,500 tonnes, and the largest civilian administrative building in the world, smaller only than the United States Pentagon among administrative buildings generally.
