Parliament House in New Delhi is the seat of the Parliament of India, housing the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers on Rafi Marg in the Central Vista administrative district. Architect Bimal Patel of HCP Design, Planning and Management designed the triangular, four story, earthquake resistant building, which broke ground in 2020 and was completed and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28 May 2023. Its design draws on national symbols including the banyan tree, the peacock, and the lotus flower, and the complex provides separate chambers seating 888 members in the Lok Sabha, expandable to 1,272 for joint sessions, and 384 members in the Rajya Sabha, along with six entrances named for mythological creatures and a central Grand Constitution Hall. The building replaced the Old Parliament House of 1927, addressing that structure's space constraints and aging infrastructure.
