Parliament House, known in Swedish as Riksdagshuset, stands on the island of Helgeandsholmen in the old town of Stockholm and is the seat of the Riksdag, the parliament of Sweden. Designed by Aron Johansson, who won a design competition in 1889, it was built between 1897 and 1905 and inaugurated on 11 January 1905 in a Neoclassical style with a centered Baroque Revival facade section. The complex originally comprised two semicircular buildings, one for the Riksdag and one for the Bank of Sweden; when Sweden moved from a two chamber to a one chamber legislature in 1971 and the bank relocated, the former bank building was rebuilt into a new Assembly Hall while the original chamber remains in use for other parliamentary business.
