Prestwould

Prestwould is a historic plantation house near Clarksville in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, built in 1795 for Sir Peyton Skipwith, 7th Baronet Skipwith, who moved his family there from his earlier Elm Hill Plantation in 1797. The stone main house has a hip roof, a pair of interior chimneys and a seven-bay facade whose gabled porch is carried on Doric columns, and the surrounding complex of eight outbuildings, mostly dating from the 1780s to the 1830s, includes slave quarters, smokehouses, an office and a plantation store. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003, it has operated as a museum under the Prestwould Foundation since 1963.
