The Red Pyramid, also called the North Pyramid, is the largest of the pyramids at the Dahshur necropolis near Cairo and the third largest pyramid in Egypt after those of Khufu and Khafre at Giza. It is believed to be Egypt's first successful attempt at building a true smooth sided pyramid, following the experimentation seen in Sneferu's earlier Bent Pyramid at the same site.
