The Rialto Bridge is a stone arch bridge across the Grand Canal in Venice, the oldest of the four bridges spanning the canal and a link between the San Marco and San Polo districts. The present single span stone structure, designed by Antonio da Ponte, was built between 1588 and 1591 to replace a series of earlier wooden and pontoon bridges on the same site, the first dating to 1173. It remains one of the principal tourist landmarks in Venice and one of the most photographed structures in the city.
