Sabine Hall (Warsaw, Virginia)

Sabine Hall is a historic house near Warsaw in Richmond County, Virginia, built around 1734 to 1735 for planter, burgess and patriot Landon Carter and later modified in 1764, the 1840s and 1850s, and 1929. Considered one of Virginia's finest Georgian brick manor houses, it has a fully paneled central hall measuring 18 by 48 feet, an ornate carved walnut stairway described as among the finest in the nation, and six terraced gardens descending toward the Rappahannock River. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, it remained in the hands of Carter and Wellford descendants at the time of its registration.
